Avalanche warning issued for the Bishkek–Osh highway from February 2 to 4

An avalanche warning has been issued for mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan. From February 2 to 4, snow avalanches may occur on key sections of the Bishkek–Osh highway, the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ press service reported.

The hazardous zone covers the 198–255 km stretch, including the Ala-Bel Pass and the Chychkan Gorge.

The warning is linked to current weather conditions and accumulated snow in high-altitude areas. Hydrometeorologists say the avalanche risk may remain elevated for several days, so drivers and anyone planning mountain travel are urged to take extra precautions.

Snowdrifts and icy road conditions are expected. To reduce risk, motorists are advised to keep a distance of at least 500 meters between vehicles, which may temporarily reduce road capacity and cause travel delays.

In case of emergencies, call 112 immediately — the hotline is available 24/7 and free of charge.
